AV design-build and installation

Either the design is ours, or it is someone else’s and we are the crew that makes it real.

Two ways we come into a job

Sometimes the design is ours. We walk the room, model it, draw it, and build what we drew — the Green Room and Animales BBQ Co. both worked that way, Animales from an empty shell with the concept still evolving as we went.

Coverage prediction for the Green Room, one of our own designs. The loudspeaker positions were settled against this model before anything was hung.

Sometimes the design belongs to a consultant, a manufacturer or a dealer, and we are the Systems Contractor who executes it: Icehouse, Normandale Lutheran, Mystic Lake, the Parkway. That work is not lesser work. Executing someone else’s drawings properly — submittals, detailed installation drawings, coordination, commissioning — is its own discipline.

What’s included

Room modelling and coverage prediction. CAD documentation and rigging plans. Cable pulls and terminations. Tuning, commissioning, and training for the people who will run the system after we leave.

Where a project is bid work, that extends to shop drawings, submittals, as-builts and closeout records. See bid and spec work.

How an install runs

Site walk. Drawings. Pre-wire. Install. Tune. Hand over.

The order matters. Pre-wire is the disruptive part and it happens first, on days the building is free, so that by the time anything visible changes the infrastructure is already in. Tuning gets its own day rather than being squeezed into the end of the install — a room tuned at hour eleven is a room tuned badly.

Recent installs

Hutton Arena, Hamline University — an L-Acoustics system for a college gym, designed, installed, tuned and commissioned by us; the install took about 80 hours.

Icehouse — an L-Acoustics rig on new steel, designed by others, executed by us.

Normandale Lutheran — two A10i arrays and X8 outfills in a hard sanctuary, six working days in the building.

Animales BBQ Co. — a full design-build across audio, lighting, video and acoustic treatment, over 160 crew hours.
