Some of these were a single show. Some arrived as somebody else’s drawing and had to end up in the air, on structure, working. All of them had to sound right when the doors opened.

How the work arrives
Two ways we come into a job.
Both are the same discipline pointed at different halves of the problem.
We design it
Green Room and Animales BBQ Co. started with us: room modeling, coverage prediction, drawings, and a specified system with numbers behind it. The Animales lighting plot further down is what that documentation looks like.
Or someone else designs it, and we make it real
Icehouse, Normandale Lutheran, Mystic Lake and Parkway arrived as somebody else’s drawing — L-Acoustics’, a consultant’s, an integrator’s. Rigging back to real structure, wiring and commissioning is its own trade, and it decides whether a good design survives contact with the room.
Case study · Icehouse
An L-Acoustics rig, hung on steel we put there.
The room. A Minneapolis music venue and restaurant running a point-source EV system that was dated and underpowered for what the room was being asked to do.
The design. L-Acoustics, as part of a box sale through Allied Productions & Sales. We came in for rigging, wiring and commissioning — the part where a drawing becomes a system that works.
The problem before the audio problem. There was nothing to hang it from. The job started with a new steel I-beam, supplied and installed, before a single loudspeaker went up.
The system. L-Acoustics A10i arrays with X12 outfills, flown KS21 subs and SB18 subwoofers. The old system came out, the new one went in, and a distributed audio system with its own volume control went through the rest of the venue space.
The work. Sixty-one crew hours: structural steel, rigging, wiring, distributed speakers and commissioning.
What changed. Icehouse started booking national touring acts.
Case study · Normandale Lutheran
Speech intelligibility in a room built to fight it.
The room. A sanctuary with the acoustics sanctuaries usually have: hard surfaces, a long tail, and a congregation that needs to understand words rather than just hear them. It was running a single Danley enclosure on one side of the space.
The design. Specified and supplied through Allied Productions & Sales. Our scope was rigging, wiring and commissioning.
The system. Two L-Acoustics A10i arrays with X8 outfills — proper left and right coverage in a room that previously had sound arriving from one side.
The work. A pre-wire visit first: around ten crew hours on a lift, pulling 2,500 feet of West Penn 12-2 speaker cable and 2,000 feet of West Penn 291 for signal and control before the room got in its own way. Rigging on Unistrut and half-inch threaded rod, carried back to structure. Then seventeen crew hours of installation plus overtime, because a sanctuary has to be handed back for services. A full demonstration day and a half day of tuning to close it out.
What changed. High speech intelligibility during services, in a very acoustically challenging space.

The other kind of job: ours end to end.
A ground-up audio, lighting and video package for a restaurant and live music room in North Minneapolis, taken from concept through drawings, rigging, install and commissioning.
The lighting plot alongside is the documentation we produce when the design is ours: fixture positions, trim heights, channel and circuit assignments, rigging points and a front elevation — everything the crew and the venue need to build it and to maintain it afterwards.
